MBA or Masters in Marketing

MBA or Masters in Marketing?
I have a bachelors degree in Business admin. I am thinking of going for an MBA or a Masters in Marketing. Marketing is my chosen field for a career. For an MBA I would have to take all of the 101 course again like accounting, finance, etc.(which I would have to do as I graduated 10 years ago). I would rather go for the Master as its less credits and it focuses on courses I like, however I am nervous it may not have the prestige of an MBA as far getting me future jobs.

Corporate Communications Manager (usually communicating to shareholders and other stakeholders) Human Resources Manager (take a communications masters, but try to take some HR and/or psychology programs) Art Director Copywriter Crisis Communications manager Trainer (public speaking trainer; crisis communications, etc.) Politician's campaign manager There are a lot of jobs in the communications field - you do need to try to specialize (how about social media marketing manager) and to stay current.

The best advice is to decide which are of marketing you'd like to work in, then tailor your education from there. For example, someone who wants to work in marketing for a hotel corporation, may pursue and MBA in Tourism Management, etc.

I am finishing my marketing degree and would like to obtain a masters in accounting. Advice

I am finishing my marketing degree and would like to obtain a masters in accounting. Advice?
I have been researching information and have found a lot of conflicting ideas. I would like to sit for the CPA and, of course, I would like to work for one of the big four. Can I get all of my hours in? Does my school of choice matter? Does the career change out weight the hefty loans? Any advice is helpful advise. THANKS!

In terms of getting your hours in - it depends on how many semesters you are planning on taking to get your Master's. I had an international business undergrad, so I had only taken Acctg Principles and Cost. At my school, the general business version of cost did not replace the school of accounting version of cost, so I had to retake that, along with the entire undergrad accounting curriculum. For me, this meant four full-time semesters of almost only Accounting classes (had advanced stats as well) to get my masters, and I would presume the same would be true for a Marketing undergrad. If you get your CPA right away (highly recommended, like BEFORE you start work), and then start in the Big 4, you will be in good shape. Join Beta Alpha Psi, or any other similar organization, and stay involved. Soft skills are just as important as grades in being successful. I started tutoring right away, which helped me to learn the material even better, and forced me to learn how to explain it to people. Yes, choice of school matters. I went to UW-Whitewater, which I contend is the best school in the country for MPA (but I am obviously biased). The funniest part is that I went to a public university, but came out in the same job, making the same salary, as others who went to Marquette and other private schools. Their loans were much larger than mine, but here we were, doing the same thing for the same pay. You decide which makes better sense from an accounting perspective ;P Best of luck, and don't give up.
