What is worth more - completing an MA or moving to China to become a project manager? During the last 3 years, I have worked to get a master at marketing but while working at the same time. The result is I had a job offer to project manage with my company in Beijing. It's really a great opportunity as I started with the company two years ago at entry level. However my university won't defer my thesis any longer and wants it by the years end. Should I reject the job or the masters?

talk to the company if u would be able to have some time to finish up before u go. tell the company that u will also be bringing them a better work quality. but i think it's kind of a waste of your time and money to just throw the last step of your degree away, although jobs are really hard to find these days. good luck.

Since you've spent three years on your masters, I would definitely complete the degree. It shows employers that you follow projects through to completion as opposed to quitting before completing the task. Can you get a better job with this degree? That in itself is debatable in the economy, clearly. However, it CAN NOT hurt. It may be one item that differentiates you from other candidates. Moving to China to become a project manager may or may not be a step in the right direction for you but you have to be the one to decide that. Keep in mind that it is very expensive to live in Beijing, regardless. I have a friend who is in marketing who lives there now but he's further along in his career and makes six figures, as a result.

Talk to the job offering company and sort it out. Usually they can wait. I'd say the degree really matters. Even if they cannot save the job for you, I'm sure you can find another job with your fine degree, especially in Beijing.
